    Infant Safety

Children's safety is of the utmost importance to us at Elliot Hospital, and we have policies and procedures in place to help protect children from infection, invasion of privacy, fire, and abduction.

Babies born at the Elliot are immediately issued a nameband that matches their parents'. This nameband is just one part of a state-of-the-art security system designed to protect infants. If the baby is taken outside a set perimeter of the Maternity Ward, the nameband sets off an alarm and summons security immediately. Please remember some basic guidelines during your stay with us, or at any hospital:

    •  Do not leave your baby unattended , even for a moment.

    •  If your baby needs to be taken back to the Newborn Nursery for tests, make sure the person doing so has an Elliot Hospital ID badge and takes the infant back in his/her crib.

    •  Do not allow your infant to be carried from your room to the Newborn Nursery.

    •  If you feel something is wrong, call for a nurse immediately. DO NOT allow the person asking to take your baby to do so.

    • Do not give your home address or telephone number to a stranger who seems to take an interest in you. Please notify the nursing staff if an unusually friendly stranger who does not have hospital business with you, and is asking personal questions visits you in your room.
