FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES |
Food and Nutrition Services is dedicated to providing patients, staff, and visitors within the hospital as well as the Greater Manchester community with competent, creative, and compassionate services. Our department seeks to integrate clinical nutrition services with delicious food and excellent, hospitable service. The most important "ingredient" in providing excellent food and nutrition services is the quality of our staff. We are proud of our team of clinical nutritionists who are licensed dietitians, professionally trained culinary staff, and our dedicated long-term staff of servers, nutrition assistants, hospitality aides, clerks, porters, supervisors and managers. A high proportion of our staff is certified in food safety and sanitation training. We are regularly cited by Manchester's Health Department as an exemplary food service facility and our dietitians have received state and national recognition for their research and service to their profession. Food is prepared fresh on a daily basis. We use state of the art food safety techniques and quality control systems to ensure that all food is safe and delicious. Providing patients with their choices of food and beverage in accordance with the diet their physician has ordered is among our most important goals. Each morning patients receive menus for the next day's meals. Nutrition Assistants are available to help patients select their meals and explain our services. Our menu offers patients different choices for each meal throughout the week. Also featured are made to order deli sandwiches and an "always offered" section containing traditional favorites. Hospitality Aides provide patients with their meals. They assist patients as necessary and are happy to provide patients with any additional items they may desire. Patient satisfaction is our number one objective. Patients who do not find what they want on our menu may be offered selections from the day's menu at Elliot Commons, our public dining facility. Between meal and late night snacks are available on each patient care unit. Patients may also arrange to receive between meal and evening nourishments by speaking with their nutrition assistant. Maternity patients and their families are offered snacks each night from our Hospitality Cart. When discharged, they are offered two gourmet Home Bistro meals packed in a reusable insulated bag.
Inpatient Clinical Nutrition Services Elliot Hospital's Clinical Dietitians are part of a comprehensive healthcare team. Clinical dietitians provide assessments of patients' nutritional status and education to hospitalized patients and their families. Working with physicians, they make recommendations for specialized feedings and nutrition support for patients. Dietitians meet regularly with other members of the healthcare team to ensure that our patients' nutritional needs are met while they are in our hospital and when they are discharged. From the smallest infants in the NICU to the elderly person recovering from surgery, all patients receive a screening to determine nutrition risk, with services provided based on the patient's condition. Our Nutrition Assistants meet daily with patients to ensure that we provide food to their preferences. They will review menu selections so that it meets with the physician's diet order and provides good nutrition for our patients. Finally they collaborate with food service staff to make sure that we meet the highest standards of timeliness and quality.
Individual Nutrition Counseling Our clinical nutritionists, all licensed dietitians, are ready to help you understand and follow the diet you need to achieve weight loss, weight gain, better athletic performance, recover from a health condition or from medical treatments, adjust your diet to a chronic health condition or just to better understand good nutrition and to separate fact from fiction.
